Day 13 – Irvinestown, UK to Castlederg, UK

19 Miles

Checking in after a relatively “easy” 19 mile day.

After almost 2 weeks, my body has accepted and adapted the usual mileage. Mind over matter.

A sunny, but cold day. Just a bit of rain at times. Happy no snow today. Ideal running conditions. The scenery is incredible with the snow capped hills and mountains. Northern Ireland does not disappoint. Friendly people and great food.

I am 3 miles from the Ireland/U.K. border and will reach it in the morning on an early start. The BEE has followed me as usual on this international trek.

Also, I turned in my flintlock and dagger already. For safekeeping. I prefer the rules of 1786. And stabled my horse at the Derg Arms in Castlederg.

Day 13- Irvinestown, U.K. to Castlederg, U.K.

19 Miles

Day 13 is dedicated to brother and sister, 9-year old Ollie and 7-year old (next week) Amelia from Manchester, U.K. and the Carroll family.

Batten Disease, a very Rare brain disease affecting children who suffer loss of sight, speech, motor skills, cognitive loss, progressive seizures, and more. This cause is personal for me.

Batten Disease is the only reason I ever ran in the first place. I wish I never had to. I wish the kids were healthy. I started for my friends, Catie and Annie Allio. Since then, I have met other families worldwide fighting the same battle of no cure, little treatment.

While we hope for a soon cure, we can honor their fight and help them out. These kids are incredible fighters, and the parents will move Heaven and Earth to save their children while rallying their community and the media and all of us.
